Hundreds of people from all across the
country as well as from other countries witnessed the colorful ordination
ceremony of Bishop Evans Chinyama CHINYEMBA at the Cathedral of Lourdes in
Mongu on 28 May, 2011. The principal consecrating bishop was His Eminence,
Medardo Joseph Cardinal Mazombwe, the archbishop-emeritus of Lusaka.
Bishops from other Zambian dioceses were
present to encourage and give brotherly support to the newly ordained bishop.
Also present to offer their prayers and
fraternal support was the Oblate General Councillor for Africa- Madagascar
Region, Fr. Emmanuel MOSOEU, and Fr. William MORELL, the acting provincial of
the United States Province. Oblate priests from South Africa, Zimbabwe and the
USA were also at the ceremony.
Parishioners from all the Oblate missions in
Zambia came to offer their joy and support to Bishop Chinyemba.
In his homily, the Apostolic Nuncio to
Zambia and Malawi, Archbishop Nicola Girasoli, urged the newly ordained bishop
to emulate his predecessor, Bishop Paul DUFFY, by being faithful to his legacy.
He further told him never to be ashamed of the Gospel and to always speak
clearly and loudly on behalf of the people he has been called to serve.
He asked the faithful of Mongu Diocese to
collaborate and support Bishop Chinyemba in his ministry. “Receive Bishop
Chinyemba as your teacher, shepherd and brother”, said Archbishop Girasoli. (www.omizambia.org)
