Alexandre Malbos was born in Berrias in the diocese of Viviers on February 24, 1829. He began his novitiate at Notre-Dame de l’Osier on October 22, 1847 and made his oblation on November 1, 1848. In their October 2 session of 1848, the General Council admitted him to vows “on the condition that beforehand more information would be gathered about the nature of his scruples and that it be determined that this is not a problem that runs in the family which would indicate that he was incurable.”

Brother Malbos was a scholastic at the major seminary of Marseilles from 1848-1849 and in 1853. It would seem that he was in Nancy from 1850-1851 and at Notre-Dame de Bon Secours in 1852. Fathers Dassy and Martin in their correspondence with the Founder mention a certain Malbos which they seem to refer to as being a coadjutor brother. On November 4, 1853, for the following reasons, the General Council decided to dispense him from his vows and to send him away: “From the time when he made his vows and wanted to set himself to study in order to take ordinary courses this brother has not been able to apply his mind to this without suffering considerably from the point of view of his morale which has been deeply affected by it. It was therefore necessary to allow him to suspend all intellectual pursuits. After a renewed attempt, the same difficulty reappeared to the point of fearing that he would completely lose his mind…”
