Bernard Roure was born at Longwy which was then in the diocese of Metz on February 11, 1822. He entered the novitiate at Notre-Dame de l’Osier on August 14, 1846 as a coadjutor brother. On August 15, 1847, he pronounced his first annual vows at Notre-Dame de l’Osier. On December 25, 1848, he pronounced his five year vows and, on June 21, 1849, he pronounced his perpetual vows.
His name appears very rarely in Oblate correspondence. In the personnel registry drawn up in 1862, we read this after his name: “This brother, having a very weak mind and being very set in his ways, did not adjust well to exercises and religious submission. He remained at Osier until 1854 and exercised there his trade as shoemaker. Sent to Aix where his presence became a negative influence, he was called to Montolivet in 1861. Unable to cope with the situation, he returned to Aix without rejoining the community. He tried to claim as being due to him his alleged rights of service. To avoid any scandal, we committed ourselves to say 500 Masses for his intentions after his death.
