O.M.I. Team Plays at Clericus Cup

The second semester of school is well underway. Although studies are heavy some members from our International Scholasticate have allowed themselves some well-deserved rest from studies to participate in the Clericus Cup along with members from the Oblate Scholasticate of the Italian Province and some young men they minister with. Together this group of young men has formed the O.M.I. Team.

Pius, Sauti, and Subash prepare for the game

The Clericus Cup is a football (soccer) tournament sponsored by the Centro Sportivo Italiano (Italian Sports Center) in an effort to bring together Clergy and Seminarians from the Roman Colleges. It is a great opportunity for these men to come together in a spirit of fraternity to work as a team and to free their minds for a couple of hours from their studies.

Up until now, the O.M.I. team has played three matches. The first match was against the Croatian Team, with an unfortunate loss of 3—2. The second match was against Il Collegio Tiberino with another loss of 3—2. The third match was against the Pontificio Collegio Urbano with a loss of 4—0. Although the team has had these losses, their spirit for the game has not diminished. They describe the losses as “moral victories”. They continue to play for love of the game and as a great way to build community, not only at our Congregational level but also at the level of the Universal Church.
