Journeying at the Service of God

IRS Continues to Journey

After the annual retreat and our annual planning, the International Scholasticate began writing its history for the formation year 2007-2008. New assignments have been distributed to each candidate giving them opportunities to place their respective gifts at the service of the community. According to last year’s evaluation, the community lived a rich community life and is resolved to continue enriching this community life. Thus, everyone looks forward to this great exchange of gifts this year. Concomitant to this opening of the formation year, the school year was properly inaugurated with the Mass of the Holy Spirit presided by the Rector of the Pontifical Gregorian University, Reverend Father Gianfranco Ghirlanda, SJ. The majority of the scholastics study at the Gregorian University while one is studying at St. Anselm University.

25 Years in God’s Service

Last October 9, the scholasticate community joined Fr. Roberto Sartor, OMI in thanking God for his call to the Oblate missionary and religious life. Fr. Roberto, superior of the International Scholasticate, celebrated his silver anniversary of presbyteral ordination. Born in Onè di Fonte, Diocese of Treviso, he joined the Oblates in 1975 and received his priestly ordination on October 9, 1982. From then on he spent his life for mission and at the service of the Congregation. He worked with those who want to know about the Oblate life and as formator for 9 years. In 1996 he went to Lourdes with the Oblate community working at the Shrine. After a brief stay in Canada, he went back to Rome as formator at the International Scholasticate while working as Procurator General at the same time. This is his third year as formator at the international scholasticate.

All Churches for all the World

On October 10, at San Giovanni in Laterano, the scholasticate community participated in the Prayer Vigil for World Mission Day presided by Cardinal Camillo Ruini. The theme for this year was, “All the Churches for all the World.” In his message for this event, the Pope invites the churches to support one another, especially the young churches. He is convinced that missionary commitment is the Church’s primary service for transformation. The message was written on occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the encyclical Fidei Donum by the Servant of God Pius XII, who encouraged and promoted cooperation between Churches for the mission ad gentes. The vigil concluded with the sending forth of some missionaries. This always reminds us of the missionary character of the Church.
