The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Cotabato, Philippines, presented by His Eminence Cardinal Orlando B. Quevedo, O.M.I. The Pope has appointed as metropolitan archbishop of Cotabato, Philippines, H.E. Msgr. Angelito R. Lampon, O.M.I., transferring him from the titular see of Valliposita and the apostolic vicariate of Jolo.

H.E. Msgr. Angelito R. Lampon, O.M.I., was born in M’lang, Cotabato, on 1 March 1950. After carrying out his novitiate with the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in Tamontaka, Cotabato, he studied philosophy at the Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City, and theology at the Loyola School of Theology, again in Quezon City.

He was ordained a priest for the Oblates of Mary Immaculate on 26 March 1977.

He has exercised his priestly ministry in the following offices: deputy parish priest in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat and in the Cathedral of Cotabato (1977-1978); member of staff of the Cotabato City Seminary (1979-1981); studies in SIADI (South Asian Interdisciplinary Institute), Intramuros, Manila (1981-1982); director of postulants and scholastics of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (1988-1992); and counsellor general of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate at their general administration in Rome (1992-1997).

On 21 November 1997 he was elected as titular bishop of Valliposita and apostolic vicar of Jolo, and was consecrated on 6 January 1998.

Within the Episcopal Conference of the Philippines he was president of the Commission for Interreligious Dialogue (2011-2017), and he is now president of the Commission for Ecumenical Affairs.
