The Oblate Province of Colombo held its Mini-Provincial Congress from May 20 to May 21, 2024, at St. Vincent’s Home in Maggona, Sri Lanka. This year’s theme was “Let Us Be Renewed Pilgrims in Our Context.”

The preparatory committee, led by Fr. Gerard ROZAIRO, OMI (President), included Fr. Clement WAIDYASEKARA, OMI, Fr. Eric LAKMAN, OMI, and Fr. Shanil JAYAWARDANE, OMI. They started planning in January 2024, consulting the province’s members through a questionnaire that helped shape the congress’s agenda.

The opening Mass was presided over by Very Rev. Fr. Roshan J.L. SILVA, OMI, the Provincial Superior, Fr. Gerard ROZAIRO, OMI, kicked off the event with an introductory note, followed by Fr. Eric LAKMAN’s talk on setting SMART goals.

The congress tackled four main topics: Oblate Spirituality and Fraternity, Formation, Administration and Finances, and Oblate Ministries in the Province. Each session included group discussions, with participants preparing reports that contributed to the suggested Acts of the Congress 2024.

On the second evening, the action plan was presented and approved during the General Forum. The congress concluded with a closing Eucharistic Celebration, coinciding with the Feast of St. Eugene de Mazenod, presided over by Most Dr. Norbert ANDRADI, OMI.

The event saw a great turnout of Oblates, and the collaborative efforts are expected to guide the Oblate Province of Colombo in its mission. The congress emphasized staying true to the Oblate Charism, “to Evangelize the Most Abandoned,” reminding everyone that we are all “Pilgrims of Hope in Communion.”
