Took the Habit in Penzance in 1843
Final Oblation in Sicklinghall on 1 November 1853 (No. 58)
Left after 1853.

He made his novitiate in the year 1843-1844 in Penzance. He wad admitted to first vows by the General Council on 16 December 1844. In the minutes of the meeting we read that Brother Dowling was presented by Father Daly. He was admitted “on the favourable recommendation of Father Aubert who knew him in Penzance.” According to the report of the canonical visits of Father Casimir in Penzance in August 1846 and September 1848, the Brother was living at those times in that community.

We find him mentioned in the Lys Marie Codex under the date August 23, 1853, presenting a bouquet to Father Bellon on the occasion of his feast day and saying a few words about the garden. This perhaps gives us an indication of his employment.

In a report dated 30 August 1853 the Master of Novices wrote: “Dowling: this Brother loves work; as to his qualities and virtues, I do not know him well enough; he is not frank nor open. In the eleven years he has spent with us he has been neglected and he is now making his novitiate with the others. He is already old.”

Admitted to final profession along with Brother Bushel by the General Council on 16 October 1853, he seems to have made his final oblation in Sicklinghall on 1 November 1853, but his name does not appear in the Codex Historicus of the community along with that of Brother Bushel who made his final profession on that day. His name does not show up again in Oblate sources.
