Born in Rivière, March 19, 1807
Taking of the habit, Aix, June 1, 1826
Oblation, Marseilles, June 3, 1827 (no. 28)
Diaconate, Marseilles, September 9, 1830
Dispensed from his vows, probably in 1831.

Vincent Joseph Dumazert was born in Rivière, diocese of Aix, March 19, 1807. He began his novitiate in Aix, June 1, 1826 and made his oblation in Marseilles, June 3, 1827. He studied theology at the major seminary in Marseilles and was ordained to the diaconate by Bishop Fortuné de Mazenod, September 9, 1830.

The undated report of his dispensation from vows is found in the Registry for expulsions and dispensations. While he was home visiting his family for a period of rest, he wrote to ask to leave the Congregation because of his impaired health. He was, it seems, “pious and regular enough in the observance of his religious duties,” but “weak in studies and so little intellectually endowed as to give more than ample grounds to fear that, in the event he was ordained to the priesthood, he was in not equal to the task of accomplishing any of the ministries of our calling.” In the Registry for the taking of the habit, Father de Mazenod wrote beside his name: “Dispensed because of witlessness.”
