François Marchi was born at Moïta, diocese of Ajaccio, December 18, 1816. He began his novitiate at Marseilles, November 26, 1836 with Brothers Camille Morandini and Dominique Luigi and made his oblation November 27, 1837. He then took courses of theology at the major seminary of Marseilles and received first minor orders on June 24, 1838. During vacation time at Notre-Dame du Laus where he had been sent to accompany his seriously ailing confrere Morandini, he “made some most inappropriate suggestions “to a young lady who was scandalized by them and denounced him to Father Mille, the superior. Father Mille immediately took Brother Marchi to Marseilles. The Founder called together his council on the first days of the month of August and a unanimous decision of expulsion was adopted”.
