Oblate presence: 1958- Location: Montreal

“We, the undersigned Superior General of the Congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, with the consent of our Council legitimately given in the session of January 7, 1958, ratify and approve the aforementioned corporate contract of the Central Procure for the Missions known as Notre-Dame-des-Missions, in Montreal, for all related purposes and declare it binding on all those concerned. Given in Rome, in our Generalate, on April 15, 1958. Leo Deschâtelets, O.M.I.”

On March 6, 1970, the St. Joseph Province proposed the following project: that the work of the Procure for the Missions be reorganized on a community basis, eliminating the individualistic nature of the work of each prosecutor, representing the missionary provinces; that the St. Joseph Province become the sole owner.

Thus, on September 29, 1970, the members of the Procure for the Missions signed the following contract: “We, the undersigned members of the Procure for Oblate Missions, by virtue of a partnership agreement entered into in Montreal on April 9, 1958, hereby consent to cancel it and to surrender all our rights in the Procure for Oblate Missions to only one of the members, namely the St. Joseph Province of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate of Montreal, under the following conditions without which this resignation would not have been granted:[follow the 4 conditions]. In witness whereof, the undersigned being duly authorized by each of the members to consent to this Agreement as evidenced by the proxies attached hereto for the purpose of ‘ne varietur’ or being personally present at the execution thereof, have signed on the dates mentioned in each of them [the signatures follow].”

Rescript of ratification by the General Administration, dated January 6, 1971, “Ratification of the abolition of the corporate contract and the statutes governing the Notre-Dame des Missions Procure in Montreal, and the Province of Saint-Joseph-Canada taking over the house and work, (with the withdrawal of members).”
