Marcellin Porte was born in Oppède in the diocese of Avignon. Our knowledge of him is almost nil. His name is not found in the Registry of the taking of the habit of the novitiate in Osier. He began his novitiate on August 14, 1853, probably at Notre-Dame de Lumières. On January 9, 1855, Father Telmon, the superior at Lumières wrote to Father Tempier that they removed Brother Marcellin to send him to Notre-Dame de la Garde. He made his perpetual oblation in the presence of the Founder at Montolivet on February 17, 1856; he also was a member of the community of Notre-Dame de la Garde. He was admitted to vows in the General Council session of February 1, 1856. The report of that session records that he was known to the members of the council and that his superior had given him a favourable report.

In 1857, he was at Notre-Dame de Lumières. Father Telmon wrote once again to Father Tempier on March 21 that Brother Marcellin was working as the gardener and that he could not entrust him with any other task. “He easily gets perturbed and gets upset about new work. He is a very good brother, but his mind easily becomes troubled.” After this, the name of this brother no longer appears in Oblate sources.
