Alexandre Silvy was born at Valence on March 29, 1830. He entered the novitiate at Notre-Dame de l’Osier on July 28, 1849 and made his oblation there on July 29, 1850. He was admitted to vows at the July 15, 1850 session of the General Council. The secretary general wrote this about him in the report of the session: “This young brother has a great deal of virtue, an excellent character and is capable enough. The conduct of this novice has been consistently good and, what is to his credit, is that the concern for study only contributed to his spiritual progress. In addition to that, he is endowed with common sense and a very good health.”
In the course of his scholasticate at the major seminary at Marseilles, he fell ill and was sent to the house in Aix where he died on March 8, 1852. On March 12, the Founder wrote to Father Santoni, the provincial in Canada, that three brothers in vows have just died “like angels.” After the name of Brother Silvy in the Personnel Registry of 1862-1863, we read: “Died at Aix with dispositions that were most prayerful.”
