As of October 20, 2014, the Postulation has been advised by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints that first class relics of Saint Eugene de Mazenod can only be given to bishops, so as to assure proper public devotion. Lay persons, religious, and priests may obtain a first class relic through a request from their local bishop. All requests must be addressed to the OMI-General Postulation Office. They have to be signed and sealed by the appropriate ecclesiastical authority. Copies of requests, or requests attached to an e-mail, are not acceptable. Relics cannot be sent by mail. They must be picked up at the Postulation Office in Rome.
