Day 4 – Thursday, August 24
Today was a day of pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The questions, addressed by the Superior General, Fr. Chicho to the young people, were the common thread of the days lived first in Pozuelo, as a Mediterranean Province, then in Lisbon as a global Oblate Family.
Fr. Ismael, an Oblate of Mary Immaculate from the Mediterranean Province, recently participated in the World Youth Day activities in Lisbon. The Experience provoked in him some deep reflection, here he shares with us his reflections on this unforgettable experience.
“The 37th General Chapter told us that care for the Earth “is of special concern to us in our missionary work. We have become aware of our insufficient efforts to care for the environment. We are challenged, therefore, to commit ourselves to the fullest extent possible to make ecological conversion a priority as a fundamental part of our lives and as an integral part of our evangelisation”.
The Superior General, Fr. Chicho, wishes to express his gratitude for the WYD experience. He also announces his upcoming visit to the Oblate Mission in Cuba and requests prayers for the Joint Session of the Latin American Region.
During their pilgrimage, the young people felt deeply moved by the closeness of the Oblates. Among them, Ivan and Miriam, a young couple and youth from the Oblate parish of Saint Leandro in Madrid.
The Superior General met with Oblate Youth at Parque de Jogos in Lisbon on Tuesday morning. The event, attended by some 1000 enthusiastic young people, profoundly moved Fr. Chicho as he opened his heart to the Oblate Youth. Emma, an Oblate Youth Leader from Australia, reports on this special event.
