Jacques Charvin was born at Rumilly in the diocese of Annecy February 18, 1835. He began his novitiate as a brother at Notre-Dame de l’Osier on November 20, 1853 and pronounced his annual vows there in 1854. Sent to the Oblate house in Limoges, he immediately fell ill and made his perpetual oblation when he was already confined to his bed, October 24, 1855. He died on December 10 of that year. On the day of this death, Father Joseph Bise, the superior, wrote to Father Charles Bellon, the provincial that the brother “constantly edified us by his heart-felt prayer life, by his patience and by his resignation to the holy will of God. His death was painless and he never lost consciousness, not even for an instant.”
Below his name in the Personnel Register of 1862-1863, they wrote: “Good and virtuous young man, very devout, but a wasting illness carried him off in a short time.”
