Joint Session of the Central Government and the Africa – Madagascar Region
18-23 March 2024

Day 1 – Monday, March 18

The Africa-Madagascar Regional Joint Session began on a spiritual tone, as Archbishop Benjamin Ndiaye of Dakar presided over the opening mass and Father General delivered an inspiring homily. In his message, Father General urged all present to embrace openness and seek God’s will with discernment, underlining the collective mission to seek the Kingdom of God in unity.

Following the mass, the assembly transitioned to a more formal setting for the session’s official commencement. The opening addresses were delivered by Fr. Louis DIEDHIOU, representing the Senegal Guinea-Bissau delegation, and Father Ferdinand, the regional president. The Vicar General also contributed insights on behalf of the central government before Father General officially opened the proceedings.

The session delved deeply into the current state and future direction of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate’s activities across the region. Father Ferdinand presented an overarching theme that resonated with the mission’s core values, followed by an analytical review of reports from various units and missions. These reports comprehensively covered personnel management, formation, ministry, financial health, and the challenges and aspirations.

The afternoon session saw Fr. Louis DIEDHIOU giving an overview of the Senegal Guinea-Bissau delegation, detailing its history, personnel, financial strategies, and visions for growth. Fr. Hyacinth presented the newly founded Ghana mission with a vivid video showcasing the vibrant community life at the shrine.

In a spirit of collective wisdom and strategic foresight, participants then divided into three groups to share experiences and discuss the imminent challenges and prospects for the Africa-Madagascar Region.

The day ended with Oraison and Vespers, symbolizing a day marked by spiritual renewal, communion, and a commitment to the mission in the Africa-Madagascar Region.
