Joseph Boyoud was born at Notre-Dame de l’Osier in the diocese of Grenoble on September 30, 1831. He began his novitiate on December 31, 1850 at Notre-Dame de l’Osier where he died on April 8, 1852 after having made his oblation on the point of death. The same day, Father Burfin, the superior wrote to Father Tempier: “One more lay brother dead, Brother Boyoud. He has just drawn his last breath. I share this with you that he died because he was mistreated when he was in good health and received treatment too late when he was ill. The reason for all that is the lack of having a treasurer.” In the Register of the formulas of oblation of Notre-Dame de l’Osier, 1847-1950, p. 44, Father Gustave Richard, the master of novices, left the following note on April 10, 1852: “Brother Boyoud […] after an illness of a few months died April 8 at about five o’clock in the evening. He had received Viaticum two hour previously. He had once again received Extreme Unction in the presence of the community. A few moments before his death, he made his vows [..] Holy young man, simplicity was his favorite virtue; amidst his indescribable sufferings, not one word of complaint passed his lips.”
