(Editor’s Note: On March 30, 2021, the Most Rev. Louis Lougen, OMI, Superior General of the Missionary Oblates underwent successful surgery in Massachusetts. Below is a communication from the Vicar General in Rome announcing the news and outlining Fr. Lougen’s recovery period. Your continued prayers for Fr. Lougen’s recovery are greatly appreciated.)

Dear brother Oblates,

Father John Hanley, Superior at IHM Residence in Tewksbury, just wrote a short note to communicate that the surgery on our Superior General was successful.

While his appendix was not removed (because it looked normal), the gall bladder and a portion of his colon were removed. The surgeon was also able to stitch back together the two extremities of the colon that were cut, which is also good news.

Father General will be in recovery for a while and later today he will be moved back to his room. If everything goes well, he will remain in the hospital for 3 to 5 days, then he will return to the Oblate residence.

We thank God for this good news and keep praying for the full and quick recovery of our Father! I personally also thank you all for your prayers and support.

Paolo Archiati, omi
(Vicar General)
