Kapena SHIMBOME, OMI

The Superior General, Fr. Luis Ignacio ROIS ALONSO, OMI, and the members of the Central Government are visiting various Oblate Units in the Africa-Madagascar Region (AMR). After their visits, they will travel to Senegal to join the Major Superiors and Mission Superiors of Africa for the Joint Session. The session will take place from March 18 to 24, 2024 in Dakar.

Joint sessions are unique fraternal meetings between the Central Government and the heads of the regions. Such meetings are unique moments in which we sit face to face as brothers and share the beauty of our mission as pilgrims of hope in communion.

These sessions are about the work of the General Chapter, the mission of the Oblates in the Region, vocations and formation, the joys and challenges of the mission, the work of the General Administration to revitalize the Congregation, the new faces of the poor, collaboration with the Associates and the youth who want to share in the charism, the protection of children and vulnerable persons, finances and governance, and the sustainability of the Oblate mission in Africa and the new opportunities.

Senegal, a predominantly Muslim country, will be a time to listen to the story of how Muslims and Christians are co-existing in peace and mutual respect. In addition, there will be a visit to the Island of Gore, which served as a slave-trade center in the 15th to 19th centuries.

The Senegalese Delegation team, which consists of Oblates and associates, is hard at work, preparing to welcome up to 45 participants to the Joint Session. The AMR is delighted to welcome the Superior General, members of the Central Government, and Superiors of various Units in the Region. Fr. Kapena SHIMBOME, General Councillor for Africa-Madagascar, is already in Senegal visiting the Oblates. He earlier travelled to Guinea-Bissau where he visited Oblate missions.
