From April 25th to 28th in Sassone, Rome, the Italian Congress of Oblate Laity will take place, and it is open to other members of the Charismatic Family.

This congress isn’t a standalone event but rather a milestone in a journey of several years ago to discover and strengthen the connections between individuals in our environment. This path began in preparation for the World Congress of Laity 2022 (OLAC), and we are committed to keeping the spirit alive.

“Pènsàti Insieme”

The very title of the congress whispers the objectives we fervently embrace. Firstly, the word “Insieme”, which means, together, signifies our intention to keep walking together, tangibly experiencing synodality where every reality is welcomed and, simultaneously, questioned as we journey together.

The word “Pènsàti” with a double accent doesn’t exist in Italian. It’s a play on words based on where the accent falls. The accent on the “e” (what do you think of yourself, how do you feel about yourself alongside others?) draws a personal call to experience communion on a national level. The same word, “Pensàti,” with the accent on the ‘a’ (past participle of “pensare,” to think), indicates that as lay Oblates in Italy, we’re living this beautiful experience of feeling precisely “pensàti,” called, to walk together.

“Sharing Gifts”

The style of the congress will be synodal, focusing on active participation and constructive exchange. There will be moments dedicated to lectures, including one titled “Sharing Gifts,” prepared by Father Fabio Ciardi, responsible for Oblate studies. Much of the time will be spent in working groups and discussion tables, where everyone can express themselves and share ideas, experiences, and perspectives.

Awarding of the title of Honorary Oblate to Liliana

Additionally, a special event will take place during the congress: the awarding of the title of Honorary Oblate to Liliana, a lay associate who has devoted her life to serving the mission and with a love for the poor, both near and far. The Superior General will attend the ceremony, accompanied by some members of his Council, who will personally present Liliana with the Oblate cross and decree. This moment will be an occasion to honor Liliana and an opportunity for congress participants to meet the Superior General and spend time together in dialogue and fraternity, all as pilgrims of hope in communion.

We entrust the success of the upcoming congress to our Heavenly Mother, invoking the intercession of Saint Eugene and the Blessed Oblates.
