Louis Claude Lecque was born in Nîmes, March 14, 1820. He entered the novitiate of Notre-Dame de l’Osier on January 14, 1843 and made his oblation in Marseilles on February 17, 1844. After a few months of theological studies at the major seminary of Marseilles, he went to spend his vacation time at Notre-Dame de Lumières with the scholastic brothers. From there, “alleging the settling of family affairs” he asked for and was granted leave to go home and never returned, supposedly for health reasons.
At the General Council session of June 12, 1845 the decision was taken to expel him from the Congregation and to dispense him from his vows. We read in the report: “Evidently, in his own mind, this young man is no longer one of our members. His qualities, very second-rate from every point of view and his lack of talent in the area of native ability rendered him really unsuitable for being employed in any of the ministries in which our society is involved.”
