History of the Cause

The diocesan inquiry for the cause of beatification of the Servant of God, B.A. Thomas, should have been opened on January 13, 1984. Due to the war in Sri Lanka, the nihil obstat from the Holy See was only received on March 11, 2006. It was only then that the diocesan inquiry took place. It opened on September 13, 2006, and could only be closed on September 13, 2014, because of the ongoing war. The documentation was handed over to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in Rome on October 23, 2014, where the cause was opened on November 25, 2014.
