Jim BROBST, OMI

These past few days commemorating the 198th anniversary of the Papal Approval of our Constitutions and Rules have been filled with celebrations of Oblate history and charism. Our Superior General delivered the annual Kusenburger Lecture in San Antonio, while many members of the General Administration actively participated in local events alongside communities.

Fr. Paul DECOCK, OMI, and I had the honor of presiding over the vow renewals of 30 Oblates at St. Joseph Theological Institute on February 15. The following day, we installed Fr. Thabani SHOBA, OMI, as the new Superior of the same community, with the presence of dignitaries, including His Grace, Archbishop Siegfried Mandla Jwara, CMM, of the Durban Archdiocese, and our Oblate Bishops Vusi MAZIBUKO and Neil FRANK, among others from MAMI and other religious communities of SJTI.

On February 17, I had the privilege of receiving the promises of a class of 5 new Prenovices at the formation house in Cleland, Pietermaritzburg. Each event was characterized by joyous liturgical ceremonies and festive gatherings, with the invaluable support of the laity enriching our lives and mission.

Whether near or far, in whatever capacity you celebrated, let us continue our Lenten journey together with “one heart, one soul,” placing our trust in the fulfillment that is always within reach.

Jim BROBST, OMI
General Councilor for Canada-U.S Region.
