Venerable Vital Grandin
Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate, Bishop in Western Canada
1958
In December, 1958, a 26 year old religious brother had an accident on a farm in Battleford, Canada. The brother was struck in the epigastrium by a mad bull and pinned against a large post. He needed surgery because of severe internal bleeding of the liver and damage of the right hepatic artery. The doctors informed the religious superiors that the patient had not more than two or three days to live. The community of the dying brother prayed the novena to ask the intercession of the Servant of God Vital Grandin. Other religious communities of the region joined the prayer. During the novena, the patient recovered so much that the doctors were able to perform another surgery. The condition remained very serious. It was only in February, 1959, that a third surgery could be performed. At the end of April the brother was able to leave the hospital in complete health. His recovery is attributed to the intercession of Venerable Vital Grandin.
1960
In 1960, Catholic parents asked, for the first time, the intercession of the Servant of God Vital Grandin to cure their adopted twins. The two boys were born in Edmonton, Canada, in 1958. They suffered from cystic fibrosis, a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs. Long-term issues include difficulty in breathing and coughing, as well as frequent lung infections. From 1960 to 1968 the parents made frequent pilgrimages to the tomb of Vital Grandin. In 1969, they took the twins with them. The boys developed well. When they joined the Army in 1976, the medical test showed that there was no sign of cystic fibrosis. The family attributes the healing to the intercession of Venerable Vital Grandin.
1996
In 1996 a 52 year old man from Burnaby, Canada, had surgery for colon cancer. After the surgery, the doctors realized that the cancer cells had spread to the liver. The man’s life was in danger. At the end of the novena, asking the intercession of Venerable Vital Grandin, on April 11, 1996, the cancer count dropped from 2000 to 56 and the cancer spots on the liver had been reduced in number. His family attributes the signs of his recovery to the intercession of Venerable Vital Grandin.
1996
In 1996, a 55 year old man from Fort Norman in Canada had a sore back. Soon afterwards he was not able to walk at all. Cancer of the spine was diagnosed. At the hospital he was told that they could do nothing for him. The family started to pray, and asked the intercession of Venerable Vital Grandin. The back pain disappeared and the man could walk again. The hospital repealed the diagnosis of a terminal disease.
