Oblate presence: 1951-2011

Until 1950, the Provincial Administration of the Oblates of the Eastern Canada Province was housed at St. Peter the Apostle.

After much research and negotiation, a decision was made to purchase a building on Ontario Avenue (later called Museum Avenue) to provide a home for the provincial administration of the Eastern Canadian Province. Part of the decree, issued in Rome on May 18, 1951, for the canonical erection of the house reads as follows: “We hereby canonically erect this religious house for the Provincial Curia on Ontario Avenue, Montreal; we attach it to the Province of Canada.”

The house was closed on June 1, 2011 and sold on December 9, 2011.
