Aimable Tisserand was born in Guyans-Vennes, diocese of Besançon, France, on March 18, 1817, and he entered the novitiate in Notre-Dame de l’Osier on May 12, 1846. In several of his letters the Founder mentions that, on October 12, 1847, some priests and Brothers “catechists” C. Arnaud, C. Triolle and A. Tisserand left for Canada, In some of the old personnel registers it is mentioned that Brother Tisserand made his perpetual vows on October 2, 1847, which means before his departure for Canada, and that he was dispensed from his vows in 1849. Nevertheless, in a letter to Bishop Guigues, on July 25, 1848, Bishop de Mazenod wrote: “Has Brother Tisserand made his vows? On what day?” He was not given an oblation number. If he made his vows on October 2, 1847, he should have the number 180bis. He is listed as a novice and a teacher of literature in Ottawa College in 1848 and 1849. Afterwards his name does not appear any more in Oblate sources.
