The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Luis Alberto HUAMÁN CAMAYO, O.M.I., as metropolitan archbishop of the Archdiocese of Huancayo, Peru, transferring him from the titular see of Tepelta and the office of auxiliary bishop of the same archdiocese.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Luis Alberto HUAMÁN CAMAYO was born on 5 February 1970 in Tarma, Peru, in the diocese of the same name. He studied civil engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, and philosophy at the Facultad de Teologia Pontificia y Civil de Lima and the Universidad de Cochabamba, Bolivia; after attending the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome and the Universidad de Cochabamba, he was awarded a licentiate in spiritual theology from the Universidad Católica Boliviana.

On 10 January 1997 he gave his first religious vows in the Congregation of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, and subsequently gave his perpetual vows in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 6 October 2001 in Tarma.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Cristo Rey in Pueblo Nuevo, Chincha, diocese of Ica; promotor of the Santa Teresita del Niño Jesús Parish School, Chincha (2001-2003); superior of the “BOLPER” international post-novitiate in Cochabamba and teacher at the Interreligiosa de Nazaret (2004-2008); parish vicar of San Eugenio in Villa Pagador, Cochabamba (2004-2005); prison chaplain in Cochabamba (2006-2007); bursar of the Delegation of his Congregation in Peru (2008-2010); professor at the Conference of Religious of Peru (2009-2011); parish priest of Nuestra Señora de la Paz in Comas, diocese of Carabayllo in Peru (2009-2013); superior of the General Delegation of the Oblates of Peru (2014-2016); member of the General Council for Latin America and the Caribbean in Rome (2016-2021).

On 21 May 2021 he was elected titular bishop of Tepelta and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Huancayo, receiving episcopal ordination the following 16 June.
